The Update

The last time I made a blog post, it was shortly after Hurricane Laura made landfall. We were searching for an alternative location for the DeQuincy branch of De Beau Microschool because of the damage. Thankfully we were able to secure a location and were able to start classes again in September. Our Moss Bluff students drove to DeQuincy for a bit while the Moss Bluff location was being repaired. Those students were able to return to the Moss Bluff location in November.

What happened since the last blog post? Another hurricane. Hurricane Delta made landfall almost in the same location as Hurricane Laura. Our DeQuincy alternative location survived the storm. Our Moss Bluff location survived but had a little more damage. Because of the hurricanes, our students attended longer hours until the end of November to make up for time lost. As of December, we have returned to normal hours.

I made a post of October 12, 2020 on De Beau Microschool's Facebook page. In that post, I spoke about the trauma that my students, and all students of the area, have suffered during this year. They have survived isolation, quarantine, and two hurricanes. Many have had their homes destroyed, like my own home. The collective "we" are overcoming, surviving, and thriving. We are tearing down, cleaning up, and rebuilding. We are proceeding forward with our educations. We are working hard everyday to make each day just a little better.

Below is an image from the October 12th post. I would encourage you to click the link above to read that Facebook post.
