Make Up Mondays - October 2021
The Fall Semester began in September, but we did have few students return in August. The semester had a rocky start. Sadly, it was similar to Fall Semester 2020 with hurricanes. Fortunately, our area was evacuated as a precaution in case Hurricane Ida made a slight shift west. With many people still living in temporary homes (campers) or in homes with various states of repair, precautionary evacuation was a wise call by the local officials. My family did evacuate, along with many others. We did cancel classes at De Beau Microschool for two days. Once things started to get in line and in a groove, Hurricane Nicholas came to town. Thankfully no precautionary evacuations were recommended; However, schools were canceled because of the extreme rain and flooding, including De Beau Microschool.
Missing 4 days of school because of hurricanes in 2021 is better than the weeks of missed school in 2020. However, parents pay for those days in their tuition. Those days needed to be made up. As a result, in the month of October 2021, we are holding classes on Mondays. We are nearing the end of the "Make Up Mondays."
I am thankful for the families that trust us to educate their children. I am thankful for the opportunity to teach each child. I appreciate that the families have rearranged their typical Mondays in order to come to class and make up the days lost to weather. Though I am thankful, I am ready to return to our normal schedule. I have come to realize that those Mondays off allow me to recharge and prepare for the week.
